Snowy weather

We had some real winter weather this past weekend. In Gothenburg, the local traffic is always surprised and paralized  when we have a little bit of snow. Same story this time – as I was driving through the city on an errand I saw no less than three buses that were stuck in the snow. Here is one that crashed with one of the trams, just outside the hospital were I work:

But all the frustration that the snow brought the busdrivers was easily balanced with the childrens’ enthusiasm! We got the sleighs out and got together with some of the cousins in a small slope close by the house.

Christoffer used the basic “sjärt-lapp” and gained high speeds soaring down the hill…

…but also enjoyed a classic swedish sleigh – the snowracer. Here ridiing together with Filip:

Clara did a lot of riding, but also enjoyed playing with Gustav. She got some good workout dragging him up (and down) the flatter part of the slope:

Emma and Alexander went speed-crazy. This ride ended abruptly when they hit a big rock. Emma did a close inspection with her face, but quickly regained her strength and was fine after resting for a while…

Sofia couldn’t resist competing with the kids – here with Oskar as co-pilot:

Dad and Filip had fun and tried to match Sofia’s breathtaking times, but it was no easy task:

We had a blast, and when it was dark outside we continued with a classic tradition and gathered inside for hot cocoa and sandwiches. What a day!

Unfortunatly, it seems like the snow is now already starting to melt, so we’re starting to prepare for spring. Snow is nice, but it feels like springtime will be a welcome change…

Week 6 Highlights

It’s been a good week. At work I’ve been doing some research regarding a new type of artifical blood vessels, and this week we’ve seen good progress in a very important experiment. We’re impatiently waiting to see how it all unfolds…

Clara has been debating an important issue, but finally made up her mind. She asked daddy to remove the training wheels from her bicycle. After that it took a few minutes, but soon she was pedalling along just fine.

 Yahoo - Clara is biking

I heard at least 37 “tjohoos” as she made her way up and down the street. The afternoon was a little chilly, but despite a few patches of ice that made the bike skid she was radiating as she proudly reported the success to Matilda that was waiting for us back home…

Gustav is growing and bringing us a lot of joy. Communicating with a 13-month-old can be challenging, but Gustav has developed a set of facial expressions that are hard to misinterpret. This is from sunday morning breakfast were some of the servings were appreciated more than others:

Busy week with little time to catch up with each other. Grandma and grandpa were kind and looked after the kids during sunday afternoon, so Matilda and I went for a romantic walk all by ourselves. The weather was cold but with a perfect winter sunset…

Matilda is quick to point out that  she is *not* pregnant – she’s just warming her hands in he pockets. Pockets that happen to be just in front of her stomach…
